In Pursuit Of Social Change: A Conversation With Risa Lavizzo-Mourey

Susan Dentzer

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) is the largest U.S. philanthropy dedicated to improving health and health care in the United States. In this discussion with Susan Dentzer, health correspondent for the NewsHour with Jim Lehrer on PBS, RWJF president and chief executive officer Risa Lavizzo-Mourey outlines top priorities for the foundation. Drawing on both her medical and master of business administration degrees, Lavizzo-Mourey describes how her focus on population health has propelled her and the RWJF board to set substantial long-term goals. Among them: reversing the epidemic of childhood obesity through a forthcoming commitment announced in April 2007 of $500 million in grants.
