The American pursuit of an improved health care system has been largely focused on translating the ideas of U.S. health services research and policy analysis into meaningful change. While every industrialized nation has a system that is unique to its culture, history, and financial circumstances, the issues each faces are remarkably similar: reconciling insatiable demand and finite resources; addressing a growing shortage of nurses; and striking new balances between the therapeutic power of new pharmaceuticals and their high cost.
