Male And Female Nurse Dissatisfaction

We have just completed a secondary analysis of Vermont registered nurse (RN) re-licensure surveys and find a sharp contrast to Julie Sochalski’s (Sep/Oct 02) findings that males are uniformly less satisfied. In our (not yet published) study, males were not significantly more likely than females were to be intending to leave their positions (23 percent versus 20 percent). Similarly, stepwise logistical regression didn’t support gender as a predictor of intention to leave. However, males who were intending to leave their current position were more likely than women to be doing so for reasons related to "job dissatisfaction"—75 percent versus 51 . . .
