It seems to be getting clearer all the time that if information technology (IT) is going to transform health care, it will not be because IT has the magical power to flip a switch and make everything better. Rather, it will be because building an electronic health information infrastructure will channel an immense amount of effort and resources into rationalizing the flow of information in what is now a chaotically disorganized system.
