From the medical home...to the medical storefront? As concepts of health care delivery go, there couldnt be bigger differences between patient-centered medical homes and consumer-centered retail clinics. The one implies a comforting long-term relationship with a primary care physician who helps coordinate ones encounters with the rest of the health care system. The other implies fast, episodic encounters with a nurse practitioner, whos as close and convenient to get to as your neighborhood drugstore. Is a $2 trillion health care system big enough to embrace both models, if thats what consumers—or patients—want?
