In Oakland, California, I run a facility for women who have substance abuse, mental health, and emotional health issues. I am having a VERY difficult time getting them seen and given the proper medications because they do not have and are not entitled to health benefits. They are homeless and broke when they walk through our doors. The greatest needs are mental health care (depression, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress syndrome) and dental care. I have had to find $300 out of my own pocket to pay for medication that was needed! It is almost impossible to get help for their mental health issues unless they are completely psychotic. I am constantly looking for streams of money to address this issue. Anyway, thanks for allowing me to vent.
