I enjoyed (at least the NCPA summary of) John Goodman's piece on "employer-sponsored, personal and portable health insurance." However, even in the opening paragraph it seems to overlook one pathway for study: The upcoming Tennessee Cover TN program, which although it (at least in the beginning) would include a government subsidy, does focus on creating a "portable and personal" low-cost health care insurance program, for those who either cannot afford individual coverage under the present systems, or do not work for some megacorporation that can spread the costs across thousands of mostly well workers, in order to provide the catastrophic coverage for those who might need it one day. One has to wonder why such a program might not be seen as a road out of the morass, which one day could transition from the state subsidy to a fully private paradigm . . . as the health care focus moves away from aftercare and hospices, and toward wellness and prevention. |
