As very few hospitals bill payers on a net basis, I believe the use of the word "charge" is incorrect and misleading. Hospitals, in general, charge everyone the same rates for the same services. Clearly insurers pay less for those services, but "payment" and "charges" are not the same.

In the author's use of the term "charge," one also wonders how charity care and bad debt are calculated into the "payment."
