Re: Access To Mental Health Care: Solutions

At Intermountain Healthcare in Utah, where I work, we have a mental health integration program that places mental health providers, psychiatrists, psychiatric/mental health nurse practitioners, psycholgists, and care managers in the clinics. This has made a tremendous difference in the provider's ability to secure mental health access at a primary care site. Most of the sites do not have psychiatrists, but most have psych/mh NPs, psychologists, and care managers. As with all situations, insurance is often a barrier. Mental health parity would solve many problems for the patient and the provider.
